Naida Taylor (Swafford)
Funeral services for Naida Taylor, 93, of Portales will be held at 10:00 AM, Sat., April 8, 2017 at the Dora Church of Christ with Dudley Cash officiating, assisted by Gary Simpson. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with her nephews and great-nephews serving as pallbearers.
Naida Jean Taylor was born Aug. 16, 1923 in Clovis, to the home of Carl Grace (Talley) and B.B. "Buster" Swafford, and died April 4, 2017 in Lubbock, TX. Naida began her schooling at Richland, NM. Later, when the Richland School consolidated with the Dora School, she finished the remainder of her schooling in Dora. Naida loved to play ball, and she competed in volleyball, basketball, softball and tennis. Naida became a Christian at an early age, and remained faithful throughout her life.
On October 28, 1939, she was married to Boyd Taylor in Clovis, NM. They had one son, Merlin.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Jennifer; two great grandsons, Robert and Andre; a sister, Joyce Lee Fraze; a brother and sister-in-law, Bennie and Jayne Taylor and many dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Merlin, her parents, a brother Duane Swafford, three sisters, Maxine Martin Polk, Charlene Weigle and June Ellen Swafford, four nephews, Rick Martin, Van Weigle, Stanley Taylor and Jeffrey Taylor, two great nephews, Clayton Smith and Jason Noack, a niece Deidre Jasper, and by her beloved husband, Boyd, who died Oct. 30, 2003 after more than 64 years of marriage.
