Obituary for Deborah Sheryl "Deby" Roten (Kizer)

Deborah Sheryl "Deby" Roten (Kizer)
Funeral services for Deborah "Deby" Roten, 63, of Alamogordo, will be at 2:00 PM, Wed., Sept. 27, 2017 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Brad Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery.
Deborah Sheryl Roten was born Jan. 27, 1954, in Portales to the home of Martha Mae (Ward) and Melvin Kizer, and died Sept. 22, 2017 in Alamogordo, NM. Deby's early life was lived in Portales. As a young woman she moved to Arkansas, where she lived for about 10 years. In the summer of 1978, she returned to NM, and on Aug. 26, 1978, she was married to Jerry Roten in Roswell. About two years later they moved to Amarillo, where they lived until 1984. It was in that same year, that she began working as a warranty administrator and bookkeeper for automobile dealerships. Through that time she had worked in Clovis, Las Cruces, El Paso, Lubbock and Jackson, TN. They made their home in Lubbock for longest period of time from 1985 until the mid 1990's. She retired in 2012, when her hands became too crippled by arthritis. Her experience in auto dealerships had gained her a vast array of knowledge about various brands and parts and their costs. In 2013, she and her husband moved to Alamogordo.
Besides her love for Jerry, she loved Poodles, and they were her "baby dogs." She was on Face Book in what is known as "Poodle Land," and had many friends who shared her love for the breed. She was a marvelous cook, and she and her aunt, Beverly Bryant had planned to compile a cookbook together. Beside her Poodles, and cooking, she loved flowers and shopping on QVC. Nearly every day there would be a new package or two arriving from something that she had purchased. She was a member of the Baptist church.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry of their home; a son and daughter-in-law, Blake and Linnie Cotton of Hillsboro, AL; a grandson, Jerod Cotton; a brother, Brantley King of Portales; four sisters, Rebecca (Pat) Winter of Heavner, OK, Monica Baca of Portales, Drenda (Michael) Murzin of Arlington, TX and Anita Kizer of Ft. Smith, AR; her brother and sister-in-law, Neil and Judy Roten of Jackson, TN and a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Bill Chapman of Big Sandy, TN; her aunts and uncles, Beverley and Joe Mike Bryant of Portales, Garry Ward of Portales, Darwin and Susan Ward of Gonzales, TX, Mack Kizer of Crossroad, NM, Peggy Kizer Goss of Portales, Tommy and Marge King of Odessa, TX and Jean Veach of Coos Bay, OR; as well as numerous cousins and other family members. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Beaulah and Lloyd T. Ward, her paternal grandparents, Ivy and William Kizer, her parents, a brother, Dwayne Kizer and a sister, Drenda Kizer.
