Quada Lee (Hiner) Berry, was born March 17, 1935, in Lingo, NM to the home of Winston and Estelle (Bilberry) Hiner, and died Feb. 4, 2018 at the home of her grandson, Brian Berry. She attended school at Lingo and Levelland, TX, and then moved to Portales, where she went to junior high and high school. Quada graduated from Portales High School in the class of 1953. Quada was married to William R. (Bill) Berry on Nov. 24, 1954, in Alamogordo, NM. Bill and Quada lived a short time in Hobbs, and then moved to Portales, where she lived the remainder of her life. She had two sons, Winston and Lonnie.
Quada worked for the Income Support Division of the State of New Mexico for over 25 years. She made many friends there and always took great pride in the work that she did. Quada was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church for many years, but had recently become a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Quada loved her Sunday School Class and all of its members.
She was a devoted wife, and took great joy in being the mother of her two boys. Family was very important to her, and she was especially close to her cousins and her nieces and nephews. Quada was always ready for a family gathering or a reunion of any kind. It was always a treat to get together with her classmates and talk about old times.
Quada was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, who died in May of 2002 after more than 47 years of marriage, her twin sister, Melba McCamish, and her son, Winston Berry, who died Dec. 2, 2017. She is survived by her son and two daughters-in-law, Lonnie and Susan Berry of Portales, and Kim (Mrs. Winston) Berry also of Portales; her grandchildren, Kylee, Jeremy and Brian (Jena) Berry; and three step-grandchildren, Jeremy, Keim and Arlace O'Neal. Other survivors include nine great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Frank McCamish, brothers and sisters-in-law, Pete and Kay Berry and Butch and Martha Wilson and a sister-in-law, Jan Berry.
