Services for Dylan Lee McKay, 24, of Portales will be at 2:00 PM, Thurs., May 3, 2018 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. John Combs officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Bo Gabriel, Eric Ornelas, Eddie Schulein, Raymond Martinez, Mario Sena, Miguel Vasquez, Phoenix Russell and Austin Neel serving as pallbearers.
Dylan Lee McKay was born Feb. 20, 1994 in Portales to the home of Jo Carol (Gabriel) and Johnny Lee McKay and died April 27, 2018 in Portales. Dylan lived in Portales his whole life, and attended the Portales Public Schools. He distinguished himself in school playing basketball. As a freshman, he scored 15 points in one game. He worked for J&S Construction building trusses. Always popular with the girls, Dylan enjoyed dancing. He was an excellent pool player, and also liked to work on cars and rebuild old ones. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He retained his love of the game of basketball, and liked to discuss it with his brother. He particularly liked the Cavaliers and closely followed the career of LeBron James. Dylan was a devoted father and a faithful friend.
He is survived by his parents, Johnny McKay of Portales and Jo Carol McKay of Oklahoma City, OK; his daughter, Braylan Alaine McKay and her mother, Bradi Carthel of Melrose; a brother and sister-in-law, Bo and Amy Gabriel and their children, Bella, Charlotte and Jackson of Oklahoma City, OK; a sister, Kiara McKay of Portales; his paternal grandparents, Earl "Buck" McKay of Portales and Belva Oliphant of Jacksboro, TX; his maternal grandmother, Charlotte Gabriel of Hydro, OK; as well as various aunts, uncles and cousins, including Natalie and Jeff Schulein and Eddie and Tasha Schulein of Portales. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Maurice Gabriel.
