Obituary for George Edwell "Ed" Watson

George Edwell Watson, of Krum, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 29, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was 92.
Ed was born in Cheek, Oklahoma on July 21, 1926 to Oscar Lee Watson and Minnie Virvean Bearden. He grew up in Crosbytown, Texas and graduated high school in Levelland, Texas Ed played football for Texas Tech his freshman year of college and joined the US Navy the following year. After his navy career ended, he found himself at the Levelland Court House needing a chain letter typed up when he met and fell in love with the Typist, Venita Jean Basye of Levelland, Texas. They were married August 9, 1948 in Levellland and raised five children together.
Ed worked hard all of his life. He was in the business of heavy equipment hauling and was gone sometimes for weeks at a time while Jean diligently and faithfully raised their children. Despite working long hours in extreme temperatures, he would often tell people Jean really had the toughest job raising the kids. His faith in God sustained him his whole life. Many times he would tell his Grand/Great grandchildren that he wasn't afraid to die; he knew where he was going to spend eternity. Ed outlived all of his family and most of his lifelong friends. His only request was to have "He was dependable" on his headstone. That he was!
After loosing his wife, Jean, to leukemia, October 1, 2000, Ed remarried Pat Glasscock of Portales, New Mexico on July 31, 2001. After her death in August of 2016, Ed returned to Krum to spend the remainder of his life at the home of his youngest daughter and her husband, Kay and Ken Dodd.
Ed is preceded in death by his two wives; his son Ens, Joe Don Watson of the US Navy; his parents and all of his siblings. He is survived by two sons, Bill Watson (Roxie) of Frisco, Texas and Jim Watson (Tonya) of Whitesboro, Texas, two daighters, Connie Read (Larry), and Kay Dodd (Ken), both of Krum, ten grandchildren; Lance Read (Susan), Lindsay Sanford (Kevin), Kelly Dodd, Klay Dodd (Chloe), Katy Bone (Cody), Kooper Dodd (Chainey), Roxann Chesney (TJay), Chance Watson (Katie), Morgan Watson and Mikayla Watson. Great-grandchildren: Gage, Aislyn, Gunner, Alex, Hooper, Hayes and Holt, and countless friends.
Visitation was held Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 6-8 PM at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funereal Services were held in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 2:00 PM, interment followed at Jackson Cemetery in Krum, Texas.
Pallbearers were Lance Read, Chance Watson, Klay and Kooper Dodd, Gage Purcell and TJay Chesney.
